Who’s Braxton Hicks anyway???

We had our 26 week doctor’s appointment earlier this week.  It was the dreaded glucose test to check for gestational diabetes.  I passed, but as my Doctor put it…’not with flying colors’.  The max they let you go is 140, and I came in at 134.  They also checked my iron, and I’m fine there too.  Good news all around.

She asked if I had experienced Braxton Hicks yet.  As of Monday, I hadn’t.  But then on Tuesday I experienced my first two.  Then Wednesday another.  That Braxton person sure had a sense of humor!

Century Mark

Today marks 100 days until the June 20th due date.  She’ll be here before we know it!

The beginning of a nursery

This past Saturday was spent picking out paint colors,  purchasing paint, then actually painting the room.  We managed to get by with only one coat and a little less than an ounce of paint left in the bucket.

Please note the flawless “Paint the fence” karate kid paint stroke.

Bedding

So we have decided on our nursery bedding from Pottery Barn.  It comes in two colors, pink and green.  We picked the green background.

Sorry, no voting this time.

Crazy day

So the day didn’t start off so great yesterday, but ended on a high note.  While walking into work at 7:00 am, I slipped and fell on black ice.  It was almost like the movies.  My feet completely came out from underneath me.  I fell so hard, that someone else walking in actually heard me hit the ground.  He came over and helped me up and walked me to the elevators.  Thank goodness for good samaritans!  Since it was so early, my Dr.’s office wasn’t open yet, so I decided to wait to feel kicks since she’s normally so active.  Of course, as luck would have it, no kicks.  I then called my Dr.’s office when they opened, and they told me to come in at 9:30.  Bobby met me there, and they hooked me up to the contraction belt to make sure I wasn’t having contractions.  I was also hooked up to the heartbeat belt.  At first they had trouble finding the heartbeat, so OUR hearts were in our throat.  They finally found it, and it was strong!  No contractions either.  My Dr. said sometimes trauma and stress can lead to pre-term labor.  So she told us what to look for if I were to start contracting.  And obviously, since I’m only 23 weeks, it would be way to early to even have her early.  But we left feeling much better, knowing our little girl was ok since we heard her heart and started feeling her strong kicks again!

Things kept getting better…we came home to a surprise package in the mail from Aunt Karen and Uncle Ron.  It was the World of Peter Rabbit series.  We are very excited to read these stories with our daughter!

Books

Later in the evening, our friends, the Baumer’s, helped us pick up our nursery furniture from Babies R Us.  We are keeping it the boxes so it’s easier to paint the room.  I did, however, have to open one of the boxes just to see it because I’m so excited.

Dresser Boxes

Hi, my name is:

Now that we know the gender of our baby, we’ve been having some fun discussions about a name.  The process (like everything else so far) has been overwhelming, yet exciting.  We’ve been looking through a borrowed baby name book that has something like 100,000 names.  A vast majority of which are instantly discounted (i.e. Queanie and Jamama).

We have a few names in mind at the moment, but want to have one more small surprise for everyone when she is born.  So, until then, you’ll just have to wait in suspense!

Note:  bribes may or may not work.

Visible Movement

We have been able to feel the movement of our baby now for the past 2-3 weeks. However, just in the past couple days, we have been able to see visible movements externally as well. Some movements are slight, while others are very obvious.   This “show” is competing heavily with other shows we normally watch!

Also, thanks everyone for taking part in the crib survey. We were leaning towards the Vicki crib from the start, and purchased it last week. We’re looking forward to setting it up and getting our nursery furnished.

First of many decisions…

We’re stuck deciding between two cribs at the moment.  Help us out!

sign of things to come?

The news is only 3 days old and already our girl is being showered with gifts from family and friends.  It is a very comforting thought to know how much support we have around us.

We’ve also cleared out the nursery room in preparation for the new furniture.  (Thanks to Roger for the use of his van and help with the move).  We did some shopping at BabysRUs and at Treehouse Kids for cribs.  The two we like were found at BabysRUs.
