Delayed Christmas Post

So we’re a little late in posting an update about Alaina’s first Christmas, but better late than never.  Santa arrived at our house early in the morning to place a few gifts under the tree.  We’ll wait until next year to really spoil her.  This year it was the grandparents, aunts and uncles and cousins that went all out spoiling her.  She received clothes, toys, furniture, cash and more toys.  More importantly, Christmas was a chance to spend time with our family and to see how much everyone loves our daughter.

First Snow

We got Alaina out in the first snow of the season today. She seemed to love the cold snow on her face. We brought her back in the house and she couldn’t stop telling us all about it.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Alaina had fun this Thanksgiving visiting with all of her family. We’ve had a lot to be thankful for these past five months!

First Halloween!

Alaina enjoyed her first Halloween!  She started her day out right at church where everyone handed out candy to the little ones dressed up.  Then we headed out to Grammy and Gramps’ house to show off her Ladybug costume.  She was a hit!  After that we were off to Aunt Julie and Uncle Jason’s house where we hit the streets running…ok, being held…with cousins Caleb and Nathan.  Mimi was there too!  It was a blast…although the picture below does not show it.  Jerzey enjoyed in dressing up in her glow-in-the-dark skeleton costume thanks to dog cousin Jake (he let Jerzey borrow it).

First Halloween:  success

You’d cry too if you were captured by a bounty hunter and inches away from an angry Hulk!

First Reds Game

Alaina was a trooper at her first Reds game.  We were worried that all of the loud sounds and cheers would scare her, but she didn’t make a peep the entire night.  We did leave an inning early, which put her into a fit the entire ride home.  True fan.

Final Score:  Pirates (4), Reds (5)  …Joey Votto walk off home run in the bottom of the 10th inning.

Pure Michigan

Alaina had a very busy Labor Day weekend.  Highlights include:

  • First roadtrip:  Cincinnati to Kalamazoo, MI
  • First state (besides Ohio):  Indiana
  • First sleep over:  Aunt Karen and Uncle Ron Hanson’s house; Kalamazoo, Mi
  • First boat ride on the Hanson’s pontoon boat
  • First encounter with the Law.  Alaina received a warning for not wearing her life jacket.
  • She put on a show by rolling over several times for a crowd of family members
  • She met her Mom and Dad’s cousin, Kristin, and her husband Tom and daughter Grace for the first time

Rollin’

Alaina has been enjoying watching the Reds this summer.  She will stare at the TV with her mouth open watching the game.  We’ve been explaining to her that they are on a roll lately, and she felt the need to join in.   We didn’t get a video of it, but she rolled over for the first time today…twice!  She propped herself up on her forearm, and then let her momentum carry her the rest of the way.

First Tears

Friday was Alaina’s 2 month check up at the pediatritian’s office.  Every thing was again normal, and the doctor was even impressed with how much she was able to hold her head up on her own.

She received 5 vaccinations, 4 of which were injections.  About 4 seconds after the first injection, her face turned fire engine red, and her first tears were shed as she screamed in apparent agony.  It was hard to watch…and we get to repeat it all again in another two months!

Fortunatly, there were no ill effects from the injections and the only visible side effect was moderate crankiness and loss of appetite for a feeding or two.

1st 4th

Too bad she slept through the a majority of the weekend.  Including, but not limited to:  Walks at the park, dinner at Mimi’s, pool party and an afternoon lunch at Gramps and Grammy’s house.

1st Doctor’s Visit

Alaina had her first doctor’s visit this morning. She received another clean bill of health. She hasn’t lost much weight, at 8lbs 5oz and 21″ long. That puts her in the 90th percentile for height and weight. But Claire was well aware of that already.
